Don’t get me wrong, I never thought our government (or democracy, such as it is) was perfect, but I clearly had far too much faith in both the balance of power between the branches and our elected officials’ ability to keep members of their own party in check.

Among many other things, this presidency has made it abundantly clear how many of our unwritten rules for conduct really need to be written into law. This is just bonkers.
